Team and League Info

Waco Thunder is a Minor League Football team that is entering its second season of existence. The main goal and purpose of this team is to provide second chances for players to receive a College Scholarship or a Professional Contract. Last years inaugural season two players (Adrian Porter & Freddie Rollins) accomplished that goal by getting second chances to play College Football and Arena Football.

The Thunder competes in the Texas United Football League which is entering its sixth year of operation. The league consists of over 32 teams from all over Texas with a Northern Conference and a Southern Conference and 4 Divisions per Conference. The Championship game is the Northern Conf. Champs vs. the Southern Conf. Champs.

Coaches and Player Info

The Coaches and Players on the Waco Thunder roster are not paid. Coaches and Players volunteer there time to compete in the TUFL. The TUFL rules and bi-laws state that no players are to receive any compensation to play football in the TUFL. The reasoning is because if you get paid then you lose your eligibility to play college football. All coaches and players that join the Waco Thunder and TUFL will sign a contract and waiver of liability if they are injured. The contract states rules & guidelines that must be met for playing football for the Thunder. Coaches for the Waco Thunder coach for a possible chance at winning the Championship and receiving a pro contract to coach in the AFL, AFL2, Canadian League, NIFL, and or NFL and same goes with the players.

Waco Thunder Run The Stampede Into The Ground!!
Waco, Texas

The Waco Thunder new this was a must win game and the team trying to prove something got the job done. Before a crowd of about 600 at TCA Stars Field the Waco Thunder improved their playoff chances with a convincing win over the #1 Ranked team in the TUFL and the #10th Ranked Team in the Nation the North Texas Stampede 33-22. The Stampede had won the earlier meeting between the two teams 26-19 in Dallas. The Thunder have been preparing for this matchup all week, “I have watched the film of our first meeting everyday of the week to gain some type of advantage” stated Offensive Coordinator Gary Holcomb. The BIG GAME started off with a Defensive Battle the first half. The Stampede scored on a Block Punt that resulted in a safety (2 Points), and gave the Stampede a 2-0 lead. Then in the 2nd quarter the Stampede got a good Punt Return that put them in excellent field position that set up their next score, a TD Pass on a quick slant to their Top Receiver. They missed the extra point and that gave them a 8-0 Lead. The Thunder would answer back with a 40 yard TD Run by #21 Richard White (Waco High), 2 point conversion failed. The Thunder went into the half trailing 8-6. During half time the Waco Thunder Head Coach Dennis Bates stated that this game could determine our destiny for the playoffs and that we have the talent to beat any team in the league so lets buckle down and play as a team and execute as a team. With the Half Time Speech soaking into the players heads the 2nd half was underway. The Thunder opened the 2nd half with pride and desire. The Thunder Defense forced Turnovers and the Offense produced 27 Second Half Points! Touchdowns in the 2nd Half were scored by #5 WR Tanner Holcomb (China Spring) on a 60 Yard TD Catch, WR / PR #1 Kelvin Mitchell (University) on a 50 Yard Punt Return, #7 QB Tyler Holcomb (China Spring) on a 40 Yard QB Scramble, and #22 LB/RB John Henry (Lorena/Baylor) on a 17 Yard TD Run.
The DEFENSE was led by LB #22 John Henry with 17 Total Tackles (New Team Record) and by Safety #3 Brad Gardner (Tarleton / UMHB) 4 Tackles, 1 INT for 52 Yards & Fumble Recovery for 23 Yards.
Next Week the Waco Thunder (4-2) will be at home again and will battle the Lone Star Pitt Bulls (3-2) at 7pm kickoff at TCA Stars Field. The Thunder beat the Pitt Bulls earlier this year 20-14 at there field.
